On July 3 - 7, 2019, the Coordination Center for State-Guaranteed Legal Aid under the Ministry of Justice held a five-day training for over 50 lawyers of the Free Legal Aid Centers with the purpose to strengthen the quality of legal services provided to citizens within state-guaranteed legal aid.

“Protecting and ensuring the rights of the vulnerable population should be a priority for the activities of state bodies, in particular, the Ministry of Justice. Now, we must join all efforts and use opportunities for the high quality implementation of the Law on State-Guaranteed Legal Aid, which is aimed at protecting the rights and freedoms of the vulnerable population,” said Deputy Minister of Justice Marat Kаnulkulov in his welcoming speech.

During the training, the participants improved their knowledge on family disputes, land law, inheritance rights, and social benefits, and had access to case studies to reinforce their grasp of the subjects. The participants also learned how to use the updated online reporting system, which reflects the number of clients and consultations disaggregated by gender, age, social status, and type of consultations.

The training was held with the support of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program and the joint project of the Finnish Foreign Ministry - UNDP "Towards a sustainable access to justice for legal empowerment in the Kyrgyz Republic".

The USAID Collaborative Governance Program (CGP) promotes effective collaboration between civil society and the state bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by the East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
